The former governor's mansion and one-time holiday home for the reggae legend Bob Marley, has been turned into a 16-suite resort by the Marley family. Located on Cable Beach in Nassau, the new resort features plenty of history in a lush, rustic atmosphere.

The facilities at the resort are themed to match Marley's greatest hits. For example, their honeymoon suite is named "One Love", the spa is "Natural Mystic", and the restaurant is "Simmer Down".

There's also a Music Gallery with a mini-museum of Bob Marley's life and the Marley family's music.

The Marley Resort also comes with all the facilities you'd expect from a high-end resort: tropical rain showers, whirlpool tubs, flat-screen TVs, high-speed internet and in-room Bose entertainment systems.

There's a 2:1 staff-to-guest ratio, a personal concierge service, and guests will be met at the airport and whisked to the resort.

Sample price: Rooms start from 250 pounds per night, minimum three-night booking.

Spirit is the USA's largest privately-held airline. It moved its headquarters to Florida in 1999 and has carved a niche for short-haul international flights to the Caribbean and Mexico. Spirit now flies a new fleet of Airbus aircraft with leather seats, primarily Airbus A-319s with 138 seats.

Spirit can has lower rates because it charges separately for amenities that were usually included in a ticket price. This is a good way to save some money on your airfare - after all, why pay for something if you don't use it?

As of May 2007, Spirit charges:
$1 for soda, juice or water
$2 for bagels, muffins, chips or cookies cookies
$5 Alcoholic beverages
$10 Checking in two bags online
$20 Checking in two bags at the airport
$100 Checking in a third bag

The Biminis are a popular spot for boaters cruising through the Bahamas islands. There are several new hotels and marinas under construction, though Bimini still retains some of yester-year's charms.

The Bimini islands in the Bahamas are a source of legends and larger-than-life characters. During the American Civil War, the Confederates used Bimini to get past naval blockades. During Prohibition, smugglers bound for the US loaded their boats with bottles of rum. When he wasn't big game fishing, drinking or brawling, Ernest Hemingway wrote To Have and Have Not while he lived here in the late 1930s. It also served as a hideout for Congressman Adam Clayton Powell during a congressional investigation in the 1960s
Today, Bimini attracts boaters for different reasons. Located just 50 miles from the Florida coast, Bimini is usually the first place boaters visit in the Bahamas, especially if they are leaving from Miami or Ft. Lauderdale. Bimini is also a convenient point of entry to clear customs. Indeed, many boat owners leave their boats in Bimini and either fly from Florida to the island or take the new, fast ferry from Miami.

The Biminis consist of two islands (or three, depending on who counts) islands. North Bimini is about 7 miles long, flat and skinny. Most of the islanders live in the residential area around Bailey Town, while most of the hotels, restaurants and fishing marinas are in Alice Town just south. South Bimini is about 4 miles long, lying east-west, with a couple of resorts and an airstrip. East Bimini is low and sandy but renowned for its bone-fishing flats.

These days, there's a lot of new construction on Biminis. New resorts, new marinas and a reconstruction of Alice Town are all underway. Bimini has several marinas, but because of construction, it's a good idea for boaters intending to stay here to call ahead to check on availability of slips, especially during the summer.

There's a huge Conrad Bimini Bay Resort and Casino under construction at the north end of the harbor. It will have 1,600 residential units and an 18-hole golf course, and will include a deep-water megayacht marina with 500 slips.

Despite the new construction, much of Bimini remains in the sleepy past. The smell of sweet Bahamian bread still fills the air as you stroll down King's Highway, past the light-pastel colored buildings of Alice Town. For the last forty years, the same sandy floor and joke undies hanging on the ceiling grace the End of the World bar.

If you're looking for raucus dancing or night life, Bimini is probably not the place for you. However it's the perfect base for enjoying the surrounding waters. The fishing is fine, whether you're interested in big game fishing offshore or stalking bonefish on the flats. Or, you can choose to simply sit back and enjoy the warm breeze.

Marinas in the Biminis
Boaters have a range of options when staying at the Biminis. The Bimini Sands Marina is located just outside the entrance to Bimini Harbour on South Bimini. The marina boasts a depth of 8 feet, new docks, fresh water and Wi-Fi.

Several other marinas are spread along the western shore by Alice Town. The newest one is Browns Hotel and Marina, with luxury docks and a 300-foot boardwalk connecting the refurbished Big John's Hotel and the famous End of the World bar.

Other marinas include Weech's Bimini Docks and Sea Crest. The Bimini Big Game Fishing Club has had a multimillion-dollar renovation, and its 126-slip marina has full services.

Imagine finally arrving at your dream vacation spot in the Bahamas, only to discover that your luggage is on its way to Moscow or Sudan. How will survive without your hairdryer, favorite rubber duckie, glasses or medication that you had packed into your wayward luggage?

Well, you can purchase insurance for lost or delayed luggage to protect you from such torture.

Lost luggage insurance reimburses you for the contents of your luggage if it is lost, stolen or damaged. Most policies limit the reimbursement up to $2500 and may exclude items such as eyeglasses, cameras, and cash. Credit card companies and the airlines already provide some coverage for lost baggage so make sure you don't duplicate your insurance coverage.

Delayed luggage insurance reimburses you for the cost of toiletries, clothing and other items needed to tide you over if your baggage doesn't arrive at your destination when you do. Many policies say your bags have to be at least 24 hours late and limit claims to $100 or $200.

Use Common Sense: There are some basic, common sense measures which can help recover your luggage:

Don't try to shove everything into an old piece of luggage that is not able to hold and protect your belongings. Now is the time to purchase Luggage Online. Overstuffed luggage is more likely to burst open en route. Save money by not over-packing; excess-weight baggage fines can add up quite quickly.

If your luggage has a famous brand name, you may want to cover it up with a piece of tape to reduce the temptation for thieves. If you're traveling to/from the United States, use one of the new TSA-approved combination locks too. The Feds supposedly have a universal key to open these locks if they want.

If you're carrying something particularly unwieldy, like fishing rods or scuba diving gear, check with the airlines to see what if any restrictions the airlines may impose on such items. There are also significant restrictions on what passengers can carry onboard the airplane, so check the TSA website if you're traveling to/from the United States. Currently, for example, there are significant restrictions on taking liquids onboard airplanes as carry-on luggage. Remember that bottle of suntan lotion? You may have to put it in your checked baggage.

Use the camera in your cell phone to take a picture of your suitcases so you can give a good description of your wayward luggage to airline officials. Make sure your luggage have distinctive tags attached to them, and put a copy of your itinerary and contact information inside your luggage too (just in case the tags get separated from the luggage.) When checking-in, pay careful attention when your bag is tagged to ensure it is going where you are going.

If your baggage does not arrive at your destination, never leave the airport without first filing a report and obtaining a claim number and copies of all the necessary paperwork along with the telephone number for the lost baggage department. Also, if you absolutely need some items such as clothes for a meeting, tell the airline's customer service representative. They may be able to help you in the interim until your baggage shows up.

Finally, if you don't want to deal with the hassle of hauling your luggage around, consider the services of a door-to-door luggage shipper such as Luggage Forward. For an extra fee, they'll pick up your luggage from your home and deliver it to your hotel - but remember to ask about their insurance coverage for lost luggage too!
