Spirit is the USA's largest privately-held airline. It moved its headquarters to Florida in 1999 and has carved a niche for short-haul international flights to the Caribbean and Mexico. Spirit now flies a new fleet of Airbus aircraft with leather seats, primarily Airbus A-319s with 138 seats.
Spirit can has lower rates because it charges separately for amenities that were usually included in a ticket price. This is a good way to save some money on your airfare - after all, why pay for something if you don't use it?
As of May 2007, Spirit charges:
$1 for soda, juice or water
$2 for bagels, muffins, chips or cookies cookies
$5 Alcoholic beverages
$10 Checking in two bags online
$20 Checking in two bags at the airport
$100 Checking in a third bag
